The Kozjak is the left tributary of the
Soča river. Its water is collected from several small streams (the
Obevnik) under the peaks Obli Brdo (1957 m), Krnčica (2142m), and
Srednji Vrh (2134m). It makes six cascades on its way to the Soča,
and the most famous one is the Kozjak waterfall which is15 meters
high.
The waterfall has sunk a big underground
cave with a picturesque dark green pool at the bottom. This natural
cave gives the impression of karst caves. There is another 8
meter
high waterfall named Mali Kozjak further down the stream, right
under the stone bridge built in 1895.
You can reach the Kozjak waterfall from
Kobarid by crossing the
Soča river in the direction of Drežnica, and
following the “Kozjak” signs and ruins from the WW I. From here you
take the path on foot, passing the ruins from the WW I and crossing
the stone bridge above the Mali Kozjak waterfall. Then it is just a
short walk along a well-trodden path.
This visit is recommended.

The Beri waterfall
:: The Beri waterfall ::
The stream Godiča is the first left tributary
after the tributary Tolminka, colleting its water from Tolmin
Triglav. The access to the waterfall is rather easy compared to the
wild area of the Beri waterfall. After passing wild and threatening
scree you will be impressed by the magic beauty of the surrounding
of the waterfall, which is 25 metres high. There is another 15 metre
high waterfall named Mali Beri above it.
The waterfall can be reached by taking the Tolmin
road in the direction of the village Poljubinj, and crossing the
bridge over the stream Godiča. It takes about 30 minutes on foot
from Poljubin along the right side of the Godiča, following the
“Slap Beri” signs. This path is covered on several places by
torrential mountain gorges.

We recommend to visit the channels of
the Tolminka river. Take the road about 1 km from Tolmin to Zatolmin,
follow the “Tolminska korita” signs, park your car at the
Tolminska
Korita Inn and continue your way on foot. The circle path will first
take you down to the confluence of the Tolminka and Zadlaščica
rivers, and from there to Medvedova Glava (Bear’s Head). Then go up
the Zatolmin- Čadrg road to the next turning where you will find the
entrance to the 600 metre long Dante’s Cave. It is assumed that this
cave inspired Dante to describe hell in his opus The Divine
Comedy.
On your way back you will cross Hudičev
most (the Devil’s Bridge) with a breathtaking view of the channels
of the Tolminka river on its way from the spring in Krn through hard
limestone glacier moraine.
If you like cheese you have to visit the
cheese dairy in the village Čadrg.
In the village Javorca there is a very
special and unique cultural munoment, the curch of Javorca, where in
the summer time you can attent a mass. This church is
consecrated to the fallen austrian soldiers during the First World
War in the Soča front. The inner walls of the church, branded with
the named of fallen soldiers, are made of wodden part of the boxes
used for mines.

The Italian charnel house in Kobarid
In the high southern ridges of the Alps
some importatnt events of recent history took place. Here ran
the Austro-Italian front during the First World War, where great
numbers of soldiers were gathered and even more heavy weaponry.
These hills
were all hallowed out,
by human hand: here almost 1.200.000 human lives were
destroyed. The traces
of senseless and brutal waste of life are visibleevery step of the way.
